5 new courses and E-Library from June 2008

The Jamal Mohamed College here will introduce three new courses for girls and two new courses for boys from June 2008. The girls can now join B.Sc in Nutrition and Dietetics, B.Sc in Health care and Hospital management and B.Sc in Fashion technology and costume designing. All courses would have 40 intake. The boys would have B.Sc in Hotel management and catering and B.Sc in Information technology. Both these courses would take 40 students.
The College will open an E-Library with 60 new system capable of internet browsing. Principal Sheikh Muhammad, who spoke to Islamic Voice said, the E-Library would install special system meant for only Internet browsing being developed by Intel with each coming at Rs. 8000 a piece. It will also set up separate Internet centres for boys and girls in the campus from the new academic session.
Mr. Muhammad said the College would commission the new hostel building for 350 girl inmates. He said the College has been awarded 5-Star rating by the NAAC and is due for fresh accreditation and expect to achieve A++ rating.
New Matriculation School
The Jamal Mohamed Group of Institutions would also open the Jamal Mohamed Matriculation Girls High School under its management. The school will operate from 6th to 11th standard. It will have a separate hostel.

The Ambur Muslim Education Society (AMES) will start a B.Ed college from the next academic session in June 2008. It will be named as AMES College of Education with 100 intake. Surprisingly, the college will be a co-educational institution in this town that has clung to tradition jealously. The college will be attached to Thiruvalluvar University.
The AMES also runs the Mazharul Uloom College which converted the Master of Banking Management (MBM) course into M.Com and M.Sc in Computer Science into M.Sc Information Technology course at the beginning of last academic session. Under a new scheme of Ignou, Distance learning and conventional system are merged to offer several courses.
The Islamiah College, here, about 200 kms west of Chennai, has signed up an MoU with IGNOU, Delhi to introduce new courses under a new scheme known as ‘Convergence of Distance Learning and Conventional System’. Under this the students can opt for MBA, MCA, MA English literature, Diploma in Tourism Development, Ph.D. in History, Commerce, Chemistry, Mathematics, and certificate and diploma course in shoe technology. According to Principal Capt. Shahabuddin, the college would also facilitate simultaneous admission into two courses under the Dual Degree system. The Students can opt for two courses such as M.Sc from Islamiah College and MCA from Ignou. He said there won’t be any compromise in quality. Even in the Convergence scheme, the College would provide all the course material and flexible time classes as per the convenience of the students.
Islamiah College will also start certificate course in Arabic in collaboration with National Council for Promotion of Urdu, an autonomous institution under the Human Resources Development Ministry of Government of India. The Mountain View Educational Institutions here which added Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) during 2007-08, is likely to split it in two sections of 24 each from academic year 2008-09. The Institutions also opened Shraddha, the Home for the Aged, last year. It has a capacity for 20 inmates but has currently five inmates on the rolls. It has also started a hostel for ‘Otherwise abled children’ who are integrated with the normal children. It runs institutions imparting courses from kindergarten till degree level. It also has a study centre attached to Kuvempu University, Shimoga for correspondence courses.
