It is not always that schools that provide education, also impart values capable of filling lives with meaning and purpose. And those that are objective-oriented, are often found deficient on excellence.
But New Generation School (NGS) stands out as an exception among the mushrooming insti-tutions in the upscale Basavanag-udiJayan-agar area of Bangalore. The very look at the school facing the Basavanagudi park, bears the tell-tale testimony to the fact the NGS is not all about clean, serene campus, but has come up the hard way, producing youth designed for the 21st century.
Staffed by competent and caring instructors, who are not merely teachers but mentors to the kids entrusted under the care of the NGS, the school has earned a rare reputation for education with a purpose. Teachers here are seen as moulders of personalities and have a role into the lives of each of the kids turned out of its grand portals.
For Sayeed Munaver, the dynamic Secretary of the society running the NGS, the school is more than a nursery of fine human beings who set out on the role of building the society anew by strengthening its moral foundations.
Started by Abbasia Begum Mecci in 1982, with 35 children, the NGS has today grown into a beehive of schools humming with over 1,000 students enrolled from Nursery till 12th standard. Though Abbasia Begum did not see her entire dream realized during her lifetime, by 1993, NGS had blossomed into a full fledged High School. From then on, there was no looking back. By 2001, the grand edifice of the school emerged and stood proudly facing the sylvan park. The graceful architecture gels grandly with the quality of education the school had come to be known for.
Year 2006 was yet another milestone for the school, when NGS Girls PU College was started in compliance of the urges of the parents impatient with the increasingly permissive environment in the surrounding institutions.
Though the NGS group of institutions has already celebrated its silver jubilee, it is far from sitting on its laurels. Several highly-skilled professionals working within India and abroad return to its portals on a daily basis to acknowledge the debt they owe to its teachers and staff. A number of them have been successful in the field of engineering, administration and medicine and have established themselves in the Gulf countries, the US and the UK.
The campus hums with activity on all working days with kids being groomed and tailored for diverse needs of the society. Officials frequently grace its functions and pay encomiums. The school is headed by Ms. Kauser Sayeed, daughter of late lamented Abbasia Mecci, and could be found every busy with quality enhancement programmes for the kids. Be it a science fair or a literary contest, enthusiastic kids keep the teachers on their toes. They regale the audience, mainly drawn from among parents and relatives, with dramas, poetry sessions, karate and spare no opportunity to bring trophies and medals in state level sports meets and competitions. Students have been excelling in the Islamiyat examinations conducted by the Maulana Abul Hassan Ali Academy, Bhatkal.
The school has consistently scored ranks in public exams. It was ranked among the top 20 schools in the district by the Commissioner for Public Instructions. There were cent per cent passes in 1997, 1999 and 2001. Average percentage of passes is 96 per cent. In rigorous pursuance of quality education, NGS brings into mainstream weaker students through extra or remedial classes.
New Generation School has learnt never to be content with success as success itself is never constant.
