Appeal for Help Assam Flood and Riots Victims

Mumbai: Markazul Ma’arif (NGO) working in several North-eastern states has appealed for donation for flood and riot victims of Assam. In a press release from its Mumbai office, the organization known for its work in the field of education, health and allevation of poverty has said that the situation is grim in Assam due to floods and riots displacing several lakh people in the state. It said nearly three lakh people have been dislocated due to riots continuing since 18 July 2012 in seven districts of Assam including four under the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). It said according to the Markaz estimates, some three lakh people have already been displaced having virtually lost everything save life. Official death toll itself is 52. It may be more as reports are still pouring in. Majority of the victims are poor Bengali-speaking Muslims. Similarly the present flood situation in Assam had devastating consequences devouring nearly 150 lives while some 25 lakhs people have become homeless.
It said, Markaz volunteers are working in the affected areas and philanthropist have been requested to contribute for the cause.
