This is with reference to the letter of Dr. Syed Thanvir Ahmed (I.V.March 99), who has taken exception to your editorial of February 99 issue. I do not think there is anything objectionable in the editorial; and there is no need to be worked up. You have rightly pointed out that the religious Alims/scholars are also ordinary mortals, and are entitled to their views and opinions. Hence, they do not enjoy any immunity to criticism. They are the torch bearers of the community, who constantly advise the people to lead a life according to the tents of Islam. Their decisions and announcements regarding religious matters play an important role in the congregational actions of Muslims.

In the article 'Muslims Psyche is Responsible' by Dr. R. Brahmachari in I.V. March 99, issue, the writer makes some objectionable and ignorant remarks. Regarding Dr. Abdul Qadeer's comments on Indo-Pak unity, the writer goes on to blame the Islamic faith for the scientists' secessionist mentality and claims that Islam has distorted his thought process ! The truth is that Islam unites all mankind on the basis of the faith in one true God and removes all artificial divisions based on race, colour, wealth, nation, language etc., The Qur'an says: "O Mankind! We have created you from a single pair of male and female and made you into nations and tribes so that you may recognise each other." (49:13) Also, the Hajj is a practical demonstration of this unity.
The writer also claims that upanishads can bring about world unity where as we all are aware of the cursed caste system of Brahminism which still enslaves and degrades millions of unfortunate people (Indians). The truth is that the Indo-Pak problem is a political problem rather than a religious one. It has to be solved with justice and fair play and not by force.

The BJP government held its first anniversary celebration against the majestic backdrop of the Hauz e Alaai and the madrassa of the Allauddin Khilji in Hauz Khas village. The show was spectacular, though full of gaps between different episodes of history shown. Perhaps it was because the High court wanted the time to be shortened and the show managers could not do justice to the script.
I would like to suggest that the grand complex may again be turned into a centre of learning with park and the tank intact. With Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Institute of Family Planning and National Institute of Immunology in the vicinity, it will be a befitting tribute to the soul of emperor Allauddin Khilji to establish a university in the complex.

In the recent months the Indian Army had conducted recruitment rallies at Leimakhong, Kakching and Kangla. In all these recruitment rallies they had declared that Muslims (Meitei-Pangal) of Manipur could not take part because of the instructions given to them by the higher authority of the Indian Army. The various communities viz Meitei, Kuki, Naga etc, had their own separate fixed quota in these rallies. Only one community, that is the Muslims, who form ten percent (10%) of the whole population of the state were asked not to take part in the selection rallies. This open discrimination against the Muslims is unfortunate and deplorable, because without the full co-operation of the one important section of the Manipur society the dream of a perpetual peace in the state will prove to be a distant one. This behaviour of the Indian Army has set a bad precedent for the country. The discriminatory approach indulged in by the Army on whose shoulder the safety of the country rests, is something despised by every citizen of this country which is struggling hard to tide over the divisions on narrow considerations. To restore the faith of the Muslims in the conduct of the Army the defence ministry should chalk out a plan immediately. The Muslims of the state should be brought into the Army to give it the colour of unity which is the character of our Nation.

Sir, Ramadan special i.e. Dec'98 Islamic Voice each & every article is excellent. In page 10 an ayat was quoted as 16:25 instead of 16:125. Please this may be noted. "Eating non-vegetarian food" by president of I.R.F. is excellent. Plants have life, feel pain. According to these reasons vegetarian or non-vegetarian food is same. I.V. is knowledge-full and useful for both Muslims and Non-Muslims.

Sir, My sister Musarrat Jahan has been suffering from a deadly disease "Aortcarteritis Type III Secondary Hypertension". We have already spent a huge sum on her check up and medicine. Finally we are advised by an expert of Christian Medical College and Hospital in Vellore that peripheral Angioplasty + stinting, surgery is the only solution which costs Rs. 1,60,000 and 10,000 for medicines. In addition to this come other expenses.
My father is a retired under taken government employee. We have not enough resources to meet our requirements.
We do not have any such institution in Bihar which helps in this kind of situation.
We appeal to the readers of I.V. to help and guide us in giving us the addresses of Institutions helping in this cause.
