The Muslim elite class has not changed their attitude towards the lower caste Muslims, like the way the upper caste Hindus look down upon Dalits and the other backward sections. Muslim students in madrasas should be given modern education along with religious subjects so that they can face the world confidently. Sheikhs, Syeds and Pathans should lend support for the upliftment of their Muslim brothers who belong to the Julaha, Dhunia, Khassab and Chikwa castes, instead of shunning them. Only then Muslims can be a united force.

Lack of education has been the basic cause of the pathetic status of Muslims today in India. Poor students depend on funds from Muslim Social Welfare organisations. But there are too many formalities to go through even to obtain the funds, and how can poor students run from pillar to post to complete the formalities? It will be ideal if some rich Muslims form an organisation which will fund education of the really deserving, below-the-poverty-line students from the Muslim community.

Will be grateful, if readers of Islamic Voice, through the publication enlighten me on the various institutions and universities imparting courses in Arabic language including diplomas, graduate and post-graduate, distance education and open university in India and abroad. This will help many Muslims and non-Muslims who wish to learn Arabic.

Congratulations on the new, improved Islamic Voice with size and layout changes. It was very comprehensive with good articles on fasting. " Flashback to the Past-Events that took place in Ramadan" was indeed very informative and innovative.

Islamic Voice in its new form is good. But just changing the format is not enough. Your marketing has to be aggressive to push the publication to a wider section and this can be done by appointing area-wise sales representatives all over India and also advertisement representatives as only then Islamic Voice can have national and international appeal.

The Tamil Nadu government has issued an ordinance prohibiting religious conversions by coercion. Conversions are going on all over the world. In America, hundreds of Christians are coming to Islam. So is the case in UK, Germany, France and all over Europe. Faith is a personal matter, and so, how on earth can the government have control over it? The conversion ordinance is a classic example of chief minister Jayalalithaa wooing the sympathy of Hindutva activists.

The VHP vice-president Giriraj Kishor has advised that some of the verses of the Qur'an should be changed. Who gave him the authority to make such blasphemous remarks on the holy Qur'an? The Qur'an is not only a divine book, but is a guidance to all mankind. It is time Giriraj Kishor reads the Qur'an in detail with the English translation and realises that this is the truth!

Ever since we attained independence, both the union and state governments are crying hoarse for the upliftment of villagers. Despite several plans and projects for the development of rural India, there is hardly any improvement in the lives of these villagers and the Muslim rural folk too are in dire straits. Muslim members of Parliament should allot a large sum of funds for the development of their constituencies and in the process look into the welfare of the Muslim villagers too.
