PEEVEES PUBLIC SCHOOL

A MODERN NURSERY OF HUMANITY

A Modern Nursery of Humanity

Peevees Public School

Nestling in the picturesque foothills of the Western Ghats, Peevees Public School at Nilambur in Kerala must be the dream destination for students aspiring to have an education which constantly drives them to reach for the pinnacles of excellence. With the blue hills in the backdrop and lush greenery surrounding the campus, Peevees offers just the right setting for the child to imbibe nature, away from the hurly-burly urbanscape of cities. Located amidst the serene, undulating terrain of Kerala's Malappuram district, Nilambur is accessible by all-weather roads from coastal Calicut and other cities of Kerala.

campus
But scenic campuses alone do not make a place ideal for teaching and learning. Peevees is more than a school. It is a nursery of humanity that cares for blending values with education, moulds character with learning and supplies substance to the shell of symbols. It believes in raising a generation where dogmatism has no place and pragmatism is constantly nourished with ancient wisdom and scriptural knowledge, lest it go wayward.
The concept
If all this is not enough to convey the full picture, a visit to the Peevees Public School should fill the gap. Arising as an answer to the personally felt needs of a man in a high-profile business, Peevees came into existence to fulfill the emotional, psychological, religious and academic needs of children in order to turn out well-rounded personalities. In a chat with Islamic Voice, Managing Trustee and Founder P. V. Abdul Wahab said he began to think of a school when he found none around to nurture his own kids who had to perforce take admission into a missionary run school in hill station of Ooty. Says he, "It was a Hobson's choice. Take it or leave it. Either stay with evangelizing curriculum, or opt out of the modern education that guarantees upward professional mobility. It was then that I thought of a 'Knowledge Village' where religious text should be offered as one would like to have it without compromising on character building through imparting of values." Wahab was not alone in this perception. He found the echo of his feelings in the vast number of Gulf expatriate families who were keen to see such a dream materializing. Peevees Public School arose out of this need of a vast number of people who were all for the modern education but wanted this to be offered with Islamic education and overall atmosphere where a Muslim boy or girl is not denied the fundamentals of his faith, where his non-Muslim compatriots grow aware of the positive traits of Islam.
The start
Founded by Mr. P. V. Abdul Wahab, chairman of the Peevees Group of Companies in 1994, the Peevees Public School is today a living monument of the man's mission and vision. Its serene campus in the outskirts of Nilambur town bustles with activity for 10 months of the year. Woken up with the muezzin's call in the morning, the 400 and odd students of the school go about their curriculum in a clockwork fashion guided by caring wardens and affectionate teachers. Ten years later, Peevees is making waves. The school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) bustles with activity. Be it mosque, Islamic Academy, dining halls, classrooms, libraries, gyms, swimming pools, tennis courts or football grounds, activity shifts by the advancing hands of the clock through the day.
Mission Statement
Says Peevees Public School Principal, Prof. P. K. Nooruddin, we had envisioned a cosmopolitan educational system that reinforces modern outlook with traditional values distinguishing this Knowledge Village, where the eminently resourceful teaching faculty, state-of-the-art learning facilities and a congenial living habitat synthesize a sustainable model for posterity to emulate.
Tempering with realities
Eighty per cent of the Peevees students come from NRI families and aspire to head for professional courses such as MBBS, BE, MBA,etc.. The school imparts education up to 12th standard and according to Administrator A. M. Ashraff, nearly 20 per cent students head for BE course, 5 per cent opt for medicine while a majority, coming as they from business families, chooses BBA or B.Com. Given the preponderance of the NRI kids, School realizes that the robust IQ of the children has to be reinforced with equally sturdy EQ (emotional quotient). The high-flying kids who head for foreign destination in the Gulf at the onset of vacations, have therefore to be tempered with harsh realities of the motherland where they have to return eventually. Sojourns are therefore organized regularly to old age homes, hospitals, tribal colonies, slums and for charitable and social work in order to provide them a first-hand knowledge of the ground realities back home.
