Zhangye Danxia mountains in north-western province of China present a colourful spectacle. Wavy mountain rocks display colours from deep red to yellow green as if someone has painstakingly painted them. But no! They are painted by the nature. Your eyes are not deceiving you. China has created Zhangye Danxia Lanform Geological Park in Gansu province for tourists to come and enjoy the scenery. These mountains are said to be result of mineral deposits and red sandstones from over 24 million years. The mountains glow specially after rainfall. If seen while the sun is setting, the effect is more stunning. Once these mountains lay on the famous Silk Route. Today this corner of China has very few people and draws mainly tourists.
