I read a superb article on your Islamic Voice website regarding the plight of women working in Beer Bars of Mumbai by Mohammed Hanif Lakdawala. I was moved by knowing about the condition in which the women are forced to work in such an environment. I am from Kolkata and I visited Mumbai for the first time in March regarding my internship (I am a fourth year Law student at NUJS, Kolkata). It all happened when I had entered a similar place in the Santacruz area. This is where I saw for the first time how women had to sell themselves in order to earn a decent living. Although it was not a strip club like Blue Nile, but even then I was petrified to see men throwing money on women who were dancing. It was after this incident that I saw your article on the net and it inspired me to join in the cause of saving such women and giving them a better life. I would be really happy to help any organisation who are fighting for their well-being. If you can let me know of any such organisation, then it would be an honour for me to work with them.

These days, the content in Islamic Voice has changed from less of Islamic articles to more of current news. I personally liked the old format where Islamic articles dominated over the current affairs and news. I suggest that you revert back to the old format where the articles on Islam, Hadith, Sunnah and Islamic knowledge filled the pages.

Thanks for your suggestion. We are in the process of bringing in more articles on Islam, but at the same time we need to also keep readers updated on community development and issues.

The article –“The Never-Ending Wait”,in Islamic Voice, by Mohammed Hanif Lakdawala on the plight of Muslim girls was thought-provoking. The fault for the plight of the Muslim girls is rooted in the Muslim society. A major chunk of the Muslim society lacks the humanitarian approach while dealing with sensitive issues like marriage and divorce. In my State of Assam, there are Kazis who perform marriages. But when the marriage is on the rocks, these same Kazis make no attempt to bring peace between the couples, instead they advise Talaq. Education is the main necessity that will pull up the uncultured and ignorant sections of the Muslim society and guide them towards the straight path.

This is with reference to the article in Islamic Voice of March 2003-”The Tragedy of Karbala”. With great regret, I would like to say that the writer lacks comprehensive knowledge of the incident. A reputed paper like Islamic Voice should reject such half-baked articles by writers who have half-baked knowledge about Islam.

All communities have a comprehensive media to disseminate their News, Views, Opinions and Propaganda. In fact, the International Media is dominated by a single Community. The result is portrayal of the Muslims in bad light.
We have excellent Magazines and Newspapers run by Muslims. However some are so religious that they have a limited readership, some are limited to being regional, the remaining others are so secular (led by munafiqs) that they take the bait of baiting the Muslims themselves.
Islamic Voice is doing a good job for the upliftment and betterment of the Muslim society. As a journalist for 15 years, I have seen how the anti-Muslim Media distorted stories to defame us. I request you to stimulate a discussion on this issue.
