With the savings made, he traveled to Sri Lanka and stayed with his brothers who were there. A year and half later, he started dealing in raw material for beedies Later he was considering starting a beedi manufacturing company, he came to know about a beedi company in Sri Lanka that had packing materials like tissues, wrappers and so on. The product of that company was Rajah beedi.

Within a short period, this new beedi manufacturing business attained a high level of success. After the second world war, when it became difficult to produce enough to meet the market requirements, the beedies began to be manufactured in India and exported to Sri Lanka. Due to new export restrictions it became necessary to market beedies in India. Since another company had by this time registered the name Rajah for their product, the brand was named Kajah. Today the group has three beedi manufacturing units in India (In the state of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Maharashtra) with a combined daily sales of 3 crore beedies. The total workforce is about 35,000. The units in Tamil Nadu and Kerala have received best taxpayer awards from the income tax Department.
