'The Dream Merchants'

Sir,

This is apropos ‘The Dream Merchants’ By Onlooker (I.V., March 97)

The recent controversial Slogan of SIM was ‘Destroy Nationalism and establish Khilafat’. This theme was not at all mentioned fully in the write-up. Which of the two ‘Destroying Nationalism’ or ‘Establishing Khilafat’ was offending the onlooker? ‘Nationalism’ and the concept of Nation-State etc. along with secularism (that is separating Deen, not religion from State) and Democracy (the Algerian Style) are imported ideologies from the West. It is bound to perish. Sykes-Picot plan was to spread this very idea in the whole length and breath of Muslim world. On the other hand Allah teaches us ‘Verily this brotherhood is a single brotherhood and I am your Lord so be Muthaqeen. (People who fear Allah)’. Onlooker should have clearly mentioned whether we should support Nationalism or not. Regarding the Khilafat also, it was not said what is wrong with the Slogan. Why take a defensive stand against the laudable Khilafat, just because the West or the present political systems ‘try to degrade it’. While rewinding our memories about the glorious Khilafat movement of the 1920’s, we find that it produced total public support even from Mr. Gandhi, 75 years later we find that only the Sangh Parivar and the so-called secular Muslims despise its utterance. This clearly indicates that the columnist does not favour the struggle to establish Khilafat. Please let me quote Radovan Karadic ‘we have begun to set history right’. This was said while carrying out ethnic cleansing in Bosnia. This apparently shows the attitude of Slavians towards Ottomon Khilafat or to the concept of Khilafat itself. Khilafat was totally abolished using the concept of Nationalism. And to rub salt to the injury while Europeans go for EU (European Union) we are struggling hard to inculcate the theory of nationalism into our young intelligentia.

Ramadan Suppliment

Sir,

I have gone through the Rmadan received alongwith your issue of June 97. It was quite knowledgeable at least for me. I learnt that Quran -e- Sharif was revealed during the month of Ramadan, hence the importance of this month.

'Break out'

Sir,

Your editorial ‘Breakout’ in April 97 really highlights the need for organised efforts for the welfare of our Ummah. This could be done or initiated at the grass root level by the Jamats of the local Mosques.

Tabligi Six point Programme

Sir,

I am a regular subscriber of Islamic Voice and I am one of those who believes that the Islamic Voice is doing YEOMEN service for the uplift of the Muslim Community in particular and the public in General.

This is with reference to the “TABLIGHI JAMAT SIX POINT PROGRAMME” appeared in the Islamic Voice on February, 1997 issue in the Colum “OUR DIALOGUE”.

I am afraid that the question “ Do Tablighi Jamat have the complete ideology or code of Islam i.e., whether the Jamat practices Islam fully” has not been answered to one’s own satisfaction. Does Islam envisages Six points programme etc., The 20 points programme, 4 points programme, 6 points programme referred to are meant to gain their own political ends to attract the electorate of Bcs, Scs, STcs, economically backward etc., so also, does the 6 points programme meant for such a purpose? I like to attract attention to Verse-1 of Sura-V (Maida) of the Holy Quran. The first line of the Verse says.

O YE WHO BELIEVE FULFIL ALL OBLIGATIONS,

When such being the case how can a Muslim feel satisfied that he has fulfilled his existence by mere following a Six point programme.

A lesson for Indian Muslims

Sir,

In the recent incident of fire at the pilgrims camp in Mina near Makkah around 300 Hajis were perished out of which majority were Indians.

Leaving grief and disbelief aside, in this tragedy there is a lesson for the Muslims who understand. At a place where even killing of an insect is unlawful, Allah’s wrath must be a matter Muslims and in particular Indian. The partition of India, the tragic demolition of Babari Masjid; the gas tragedy in Bhopal; the continuous communal riots; ethnic violences in India and Pakistan; frequent attacks on life, property and honour, diverse political and economical backwardness; these all reflect the humiliating and disgraceful picture of Muslims.

When Allah’s torment was inflicted upon the earlier disobedient races, their existence was obliterated. Shouldn’t the followers of Prophet Muhammad(Pbuh) be afraid of such an end? Prophet(Pbuh) once said; “Very soon other folk will come upon you and though you will be in majority but you will be like foam over the river. The hadith continues.” Because of your love of life and fear of death Allah will instil cowardliness in your heart”. (Mishkat) Further, Allah warns Muslims in these words: “ If you turn back (from the path), He will substitute in your stead another people, then they would not be like you”. (Al-Quran, 47:38) At other place in Quran Allah says: “Unless you go forth, He will punish you with a grievous penalty, and put others in your place:”(9:39)

Hence it is needed to make such an effort as Indian Muslims not be included in doomed people. Let Muslims return from rituals to the spirit, from pomp and show to the essence of Islam. Let Muslims set their priorities in order. Otherwise they are bound to be expunged as promised by Allah in the Holy Quran.
