The New College, Chennai – Instrumentation Lab Commissioned

Chennai: The New College renovated its Chemistry Instrumentation Laboratory during the last academic year at a cost of Rs. 63 lakh. The work was sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST). In a chat with Islamic Voice, Principal Dr. Major Zahid Hussain informed that the College is now having Ph.D. programmes in eight disciplines, namely Arabic, English, Chemistry, Economics, Tamil, Zoology, Commerce, Company Secretaryship and Physics. The College recently introduced Urdu literature as a major subject at BA level. The College also commissioned its Digitised library with a facility to log on to digitized versions of 122,000 books. The library has installed 22 Apple brand computer systems for the users.
According to Major Hussain, who will be demitting the office on May 31 this year on attaining superannuation, the college has a strength of 5,500 students. The girls are enrolled only at the Ph.D. level. (By A Staff Writer)
