Urdu in Delhi Schools

New Delhi: The Delhi Minorities Commission has received a number of complaints that a number of school principals are asking students to opt for Sanskrit in place of Urdu. If the students insist on Urdu, they are asked to go to another school. The Commission has issued a number of notices to the Departments of Education of both Delhi Government and Delhi Municipal Corporations to provide Urdu to students asking for it. Notices have been issued in respect of a school in Rajiv Nagar in East Shahdra, Government Boys Senior Secondary School in Tukhmeerpur, Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Dayalpur, Government Boys Senior Secondary School in Yamuna Vihar, and to a number of schools in North-East district. An earlier complaint was received from Aleem Abbasi that the Government Boys Secondary School in Sarai Kale Khan is not providing Urdu. In reply to a notice, Directorate of Education has informed the Commission that a guest teacher has been provided to the said school.
