Bhatkal Urban Coop Bank is 50 years old
Bhatkal: While Bengaluru based Amanath Cooperative Bank is facing takeover or closure, the Bhatkal Urban Cooperative Bank has completed 50 years since its existence and is celebrating its golden jubilee. Minister for Information, Hajj and Infrastructure Mr. R. Roshan Baig who inaugurated the golden jubilee celebrations on December 8, also commissioned a drinking water unit in the town set up by the Bank.
The Bhatkal Urban Cooperative Bank was set up in 1964 with a deposit base of Rs. 58,000. The deposits have now grown to Rs. 308 crore. According to Bank’s Manager, Mr. Abdur Rahman Chougule, the number of depositors has gone up from 217 to 21,597. The Bank has been gradually bringing automation in its operations. It introduced computers in 1990 and installed ATMs in 2004.
Mr. Roshan Baig while lauding the services of the Bank, exhorted the management to set up its branches at Mangaluru, Udupi, and even Bengaluru.
