“Habib Rahman-The Architect of Independent India” authored by Prof. S.M. Akhtar, Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, Jamia Millia Islamia was released at the National Convention of Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) held on December 18, 2015 at Kolkata. The book is a monograph of the Projects, Philosophy and Life of Architect, Habib Rahman. Architect Habib Rahman was among the first architects to work in independent India. Apart from designing landmark buildings; he is attributed to formulate the architectural vocabulary representing the secular and socialist ethos of the emerging nation. Habib Rahman worked with the CPWD for most of his career and designed most of the landmark buildings in Delhi, Kolkata and other parts of the country. His buildings include UGC headquarters, WHO headquarters, Rabindra Bhawan, Vikas Minar, Dak Tar Bhawan, RK Puram Housing, Mausoleum of Moulana Abul Kalam Azad at Delhi, Secretariat and Gandhi Ghat at Kolkata among others. The Mausoleum of Zakir Hussain at Jamia is also designed by Habib Rahman. Habib Rahman worked entirely for the government organizations.
Habib Rahman was born in the year 1915 in Kolkata. The book is a tribute on his First Birth Centenary released in his hometown in the National Convention of Indian Institute of Architects. The book is published by Copal Publishing.
