Bengaluru: The 30-members executive body of the Central Muslim Association (CMA) of Karnataka was elected unopposed in the last week of November. The CMA is the oldest existing body of Muslims in the State. Those who had filed nomination for contesting the elections were persuaded to withdraw nomination, thereby clearing the way for the old body to get elected unopposed. Prominent among them are Alhaj Maqbool Ahmed, Dr. Zaheeruddin Ahmed, M. Sirajullah Khan, social worker Atheeq Ahmed, builder Irfan Razack, former MLA Saadath Ali Khan, businessman A. S. Dawood, youth activist Syed Shahid Ahmed, J. Shafiullah and Agha Sultan Murtaza. The results were announced at the 84th Annual General Body meeting of the Association on November 24. The elections without a contest were appreciated by all sections of the community.
Efficient management of the properties by the re-elected executive in the past three years has led to some productive results. The CMA’s old hostel behind the Bengaluru’s iconic K. R. Market was acquired by the Bangalore Metropolitan Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) three years ago for the market value for construction of the Metro station near the K. R. Market. The amount has now been invested in buying 34,000 sq. ft. (nearly three-fourth of an acre) Das compound property in upmarket Basavanagudi area for construction of boys’ hostel. It is to be remembered that the old CMA Hostel was a boon to the community students in yesteryears as hundreds of students from all over old Mysore state used to stay there during their enrolment in colleges in Bengaluru. The Hostel had been accommodating nearly 200 students during its heydays. Former inmates of the Hostel are found at key position all over the English speaking world and the Gulf.
The CMA has further bought 20,000 sq. ft. land in Kavalbyrasandra area in northern part of the City, a 7,000 sq. ft plot in Khalasipalyam in the central part of the city and 22.5 acre of revenue land on Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway for future needs of the community.
