Thiruvananthapuram: Archbishop Soosa Pakiam M. of the Latin Archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram has come out against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, terming it discriminatory. Discrimination against anyone in a democratic and secular country like India was unacceptable, the Archbishop said at a press conference here on Dec 18. The act is against the secular values and the church will express its views over the act at the apt time, he said. “Discrimination against some people in the country is worrisome. Church doesn’t support it. The amendment is anti-constitutional and against the secular values. There is a concern whether the amendment conceals a declaration that anything can be done in the name of majority,” he added.
