Pre-Matric Scholarships for Minorities – 62% Students Do Not Have Bank Accounts
By A Staff Writer
Bangalore: Over 62% students from minority communities are not able to receive their scholarships due to either absence of a bank account or inaccuracies in the details of the bank accounts furnished by them. This was revealed by Mr. Akram Pasha, Director of Minority Welfare Directorate.
According to Mr. Pasha, 756075 applications for pre-Matric scholarships were received by the Directorate. Of these 413,941 were cleared for approval of scholarships. However, 82192 of these were rejected merely because the applicants had furnished wrong details. Another 259,942 were rejected due to absence of bank accounts.
Pasha informed that earlier the scholarships were sent by cheques while now the amount is electronically transferred to the students’ bank accounts. Hence, all applicants are supposed to have bank accounts and furnish the accurate details with the applications, he added.
Pasha said the applicants are supposed to see the details of the scholarships on the website. He informed the media that over 7,000 applications for the post-Matric scholarships too were rejected due to non-inclusion of marks card.
