Premchand Chair Urged
Aligarh: Premchand always took up causes of rural and poverty stricken masses for his stories and his story “Eidgah” is the shining example of that. He is called as king of literature but it is very unfortunate that his birthday went away silently in Aligarh which is supposed to be the city of poets and writers said Secretary, Jasim Mohammad while chairing a meeting held by Hindustani Sahitya Sanskiriti Sangam (HSSS) at Media Centre Aligarh. He said Premchand is still acknowledged as a representative of working class.
Vice President Dr. Daulat Ram said Premchand had given new dimensions to literature and the principles incorporated in our economic policies are based upon them but with passage of time we have changed our priorities which is very unfortunate.
Dr. G. F. Sabri recalled that Premchand had addressed problems and aspirations of women also. His women characters have social commitment on one hand and on the other they are engulfed in their own problems.
Dr. Kapil Kumar said that Premchand has not received the place he deserved and the government should establish Premchand Chair in every university so that our young generation may know old values.
At the end of the meeting, HSSS passed a resolution unanimously demanding that birthday of Premchand should be observed officially as Literature Day. In another resolution HSSS has demanded that Premchand Chair must be established in every Central university to protect our culture and values.
Apart from large number of teachers, scholars and intellectuals notably N. Jamal Ansari, Nilofar Usmani, Fatima Aliba, Jahangir Alam were also present in the meeting.
