ISLAMABAD (APP): The Muslim World League (MWL) is set to launch a groundbreaking initiative to advance girls’ education through its International Partnerships for Education in Muslim Societies platform. This initiative will be unveiled at a global conference titled “Girls’ Education in Muslim Communities: Challenges and Opportunities”, scheduled for January 11-12, 2025, in Islamabad.
Under the patronage of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the conference aims to forge global partnerships among governments, Islamic institutions, civil society, and international organizations. Senior religious scholars, intellectuals, media leaders, and activists from across the world will collaborate to advance girls’ education within Muslim communities.
The MWL initiative is aligned with the principles of the Charter of Makkah particularly Article 25 and the Charter of Building Bridges Between Islamic Schools of Thought and Sects. Both were endorsed under the patronage of Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Additionally, resolutions adopted by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, along with MoUs between the MWL, OIC, Islamic Fiqh Council, and International Islamic Fiqh Academy, reinforce this commitment.
The conference aims to dispel misconceptions about Islam’s stance on girls’ education. The MWL reaffirms that Islam being a religion of knowledge, progress, and moral values unequivocally supports the right of girls to education. Any practices that hinder this fundamental right are contrary to Islamic teachings.
Key discussions will focus on identifying challenges to girls’ education, developing actionable strategies to overcome barriers, and leveraging opportunities to empower women. By enhancing educational outcomes, the MWL seeks to enable women to play a vital role in community development across all sectors.
This platform marks a significant step toward addressing educational disparities in Muslim societies, fostering inclusive progress, and equipping girls with the tools to build a brighter, more prosperous future for themselves and their communities.
