Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged a unified global response to combat rising intolerance, racism, and Islamophobia. Speaking at the Strategic Vision Group: Russia-Islamic World meeting, he emphasized the importance of compassion, justice, and humanity in addressing these global challenges.
Anwar highlighted the tragedies unfolding in Gaza and the rise of fascism and racism worldwide as critical issues requiring urgent attention. He called on the Muslim world to embrace values of As-Samud (tolerance), Rahmah (compassion), and Ehsan (humanity) to lead efforts in promoting global harmony.
“This is a period of great tragedies, affecting humanity at large and particularly Muslims from Gaza to other parts of the world,” he said. “We must counter hate and intolerance to foster a world where mutual understanding and respect prevail.”
The meeting, attended by over 200 representatives from 32 countries, serves as a platform for fostering global collaboration and addressing pressing issues in Muslim communities and beyond. Dignitaries included Rustam Minnikhanov, Chairman of the Russia-Islamic World Strategic Vision Group, and Malaysian ministers Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and Dr. Zulkifli Hasan.
Anwar also highlighted Malaysia’s commitment to religious tolerance, noting the country’s swift actions against local incidents of intolerance. He stressed that, while Malaysia is a Muslim-majority nation, it exemplifies respect for all faiths.
“We ensure Muslims adhere to their faith while upholding the dignity and rights of men and women from all religions,” Anwar said, calling on other nations to adopt similar consistent and coherent approaches.
The meeting concludes, aiming to advance global collaboration and promote mutual respect and understanding.
