The Shura Council took part in the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which opened Saturday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The Council’s delegation was led by HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.

The assembly’s agenda includes key global issues such as the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, international peace and security, climate change governance, and legal reforms for social and economic justice. Participants are also reviewing progress and strategies for accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at both regional and global levels.

HE Al Ghanim chaired the Asian Parliamentary Assembly’s coordination meeting, focusing on enhancing regional cooperation, supporting development and stability, and forming a unified Arab stance calling for an end to Israeli aggression in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

He also joined the Islamic Parliamentary Group’s coordination meeting, which discussed collective strategies to strengthen the voice of the Islamic world within the IPU.

Additionally, HE Dr. Sultan bin Hassan Al Dosari represented the Shura Council in a joint session between GCC legislative councils and the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC), exploring avenues for parliamentary collaboration and common positions on agenda items.

The assembly was opened with speeches from HE Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Uzbek Senate; HE Dr. Tulia Axson, President of the IPU; and HE Martin Chungong, IPU Secretary-General. The event also featured a visual presentation titled “From Paris to Tashkent”, commemorating the IPU’s 150th session.
