NEW DELHI: At a Press Club of India (PCI) memorial on September 16, historian Dr. Swapna Liddle celebrated Moulvi Muhammad Baqir’s contributions during the 1857 Revolt. Liddle emphasized Baqir’s crucial role in the rebellion and his pioneering influence on Indian journalism, addressing issues like British exploitation and racial inequality.

PCI President Gautam Lahiri praised Baqir’s dedication and urged introspection within the media, noting India’s declining position in the World Media Freedom Index. A panel discussed Baqir’s legacy and the struggles of modern Urdu journalism, highlighting parallels between his era and today’s media challenges.
