Prof. Rafikul Islam, a distinguished academic from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Aliah University.

Originally from Bengal, Prof. Islam holds an MSc in Applied Mathematics from the University of Calcutta and a PhD in Operations Research from IIT Kharagpur. Known for his extensive contributions to academia, he brings decades of experience and leadership to his new role.

Prof. Islam has been part of IIUM since 1998, following teaching roles in Karnataka and at BITS Pilani. At IIUM, he has served in various leadership positions, including Head of the Department of Business Administration and Deputy Dean (Academic Affairs) at the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences.

An accomplished scholar, Prof. Islam has authored five books and published over 100 research papers in reputed journals. He has received the university’s Quality Research Award and supervised ten PhD graduates. Additionally, he has presented more than 50 research papers at international conferences.

Currently, he serves as Chief Editor of the IIUM Journal of Case Studies in Management and is an Associate Editor for two international journals. He also holds editorial board positions for several other publications.

Prof. Islam is renowned for his expertise in the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and frequently conducts workshops on the subject globally. His research interests include AHP applications in management, multiple criteria decision-making, quality management, and operations management.

Prof. Islam’s appointment marks a significant addition to Aliah University’s leadership, promising to strengthen its academic excellence and global standing.
