NGOs Network for a Cause

Bangalore: The Cigma Foundation, in co-ordination with the Lead Trust, Feroze’s Estates, the Daily Salar, Karnataka Muslims, Beary’s Education and Shaheen Trust, organised the ‘Second South India Conference of Muslim NGOs’ on the topic, ‘Role of NGOs in Reaching Government Schemes to the Masses’, here at Ferozes Terrace Garden on March, 10. Over 300 social activists from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala gathered on a common platform to discuss the best ways of networking together to help the community become aware of various government schemes available for them.
The Cigma Foundation, headed by Ameen-e- Mudassar, a career counsellor, also revealed plans during the conference, to set up the ‘Minority One Center’ – an information decimation centre on all the available government schemes. A corpus fund of 50 lakhs was raised, and it was decided to start a pilot project in Hassan district with the help of existing infrastructure of Karnataka Zakath and Charitable Trust.
K. Rahman Khan, Minister for Minority Affairs, was the guest of honour for the morning session. Other speakers included Zameer Pasha, Principal Secretary, Dept.of Minority Affairs Govt. of Karnataka. (Rtd), Naveed Hamid, Member National Integration Council, Govt. of India, U. Nisar Ahmed, IPS, Former IGP, Karnataka, Syed Mohammed Beary, Managing Director, Bearys Group of Institutions, Iftikhar Ahmed, Chief Editor – Daily Salar, Mohammed Sanaulla, Principal Secretary, Backward Classes Welfare Department, Govt of Karnataka, also presented their views. A talk on Right to Information Act (RTI) and its utilisation by NGO’s was presented by Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR). K. Rahman Khan said that to utilise most of the government schemes available for the poor, one must have the ‘BPL Ration Card’. He advised the NGO’s to work in this direction.
