 The Friends Association here felicitated 40 students with cash awards for passing the SSLC exams with distinction. Student Pawan Kumar was given Rs. 10,000 in cash for scoring 98% marks by former minister Prof. Mumtaz Ali Khan from his personal funds. Kumar topped in the entire Chickballapur district. He gifted gold rings to five Muslim girls who scored distinctions in SSLC. The Friends Association organized the award ceremony in Ambedkar Bhavan of the small town, 60 kms north of Bangalore.
Former Member of Parliament Ghousesab Sanadi advised the students to strive to become an asset to the nation and remove backwardness. Journalist M. A. Siraj told the students that stress on knowledge can make India a superpower. Prof. Mumtaz Ali Khan exhorted the students to follow good moral values.
The awards from Friends Association carried a purse of Rs. 1000 to six students who got distinction while Rs. 500 were given to 34 students who scored 60% and upwards.
Mr. Mahboob Jan, assistant commissioner of Police (retd.) welcomed the gathering. Mr. Shamsuddin, Secretary of the Association proposed a vote of thanks.
