The data collected at the Observatory will help Scientists and Scholars in studying earthquake behaviours in the region that would help in making life safer.
The Observatory will help in deducting earthquakes of more than 2 magnitude on Richter scale and locating its epicentre with greater precision.
Speaking on the occasion, JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Ahmad, who himself is a well-known Geologist, said that India’s capital being close to the Himalayan range is always in danger of earthquakes and this Observatory will help in minimizing any damage by detecting its magnitude.
He said that JMI is already conducting Diploma courses in Disaster Management and Climate Change. Very soon, the university, he said, will start Ph.D. courses in these fields.
