Hyderabad: Twelve out of 30 students coached by the Hyderabad Institute of Excellence (HIE) were selected in the IIT-JEE this year. The HIE is run by the Hyderabad Zakat and Charitable Trust (HZCT).
The Hyderabad Zakat and Charitable Trust supported 1,708 students with scholarships to the tune of Rs. 2.61 crore during the 2015-16 to pursue higher education. It also helped 24,000 students in 99 Urdu medium schools and three English medium schools with Rs. 1.01 crore during the period. Its annual report sent to Islamic Voice, says it supported 12 single teacher schools with Rs. 2.85 lakh. It is also maintaining eight craft centres with 475 girls learning crafts there with assistance to the tune of Rs. 3.37 lakh. 3,161 orphans received Rs. 53 lakh in assistance during the year while it distributed relief packets worth Rs. 42 lakh among flood victims in Chennai.
The Trust provided bore wells for 1,200 beneficiaries at a cost of Rs. 1.73 lakh during the year. The Trust’ s special Iftar Food Grains and Zabiha distribution covered over a lakh people who received Ramazan kit. It shows an expenditure of Rs. 1.95 crore in the head.
