Jodhpur: The Marwar Muslim Educational and Welfare Society (MMEWS) will set up the Maulana Azad National University which is likely to be functional from July 2013. Mohamed Atique, chief executive officer of the MMEWS told Islamic Voice that a proposal presented to Rajasthan Chief Minister Mr. Ashok Gehlot on July 2 has received enthusiastic response from the Government.
The Society runs 32 institutions including colleges, educational training institutes, polytechnics, ITI, nursing colleges and hospitals.
The society has made consistent progress over the last three decades in imparting modern education to the Muslim community in the Marwar region of Rajasthan known for its distinct culture, architecture and language.
A delegation of the Society and city’s Muslim elite met the chief minister and presented the proposal for the private university. It included Divisional Forest Conservator Ishaq Ahmed Mugal, member of Municipal Corporation Azam Jodhpuri, Society Director Qazi Mohammed Ayyub Ansari, President Shabbir Ahmed Khilji, Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Atique, General Secretary Dr. Gulam Rabbani, Treasurer Mohammed Ali Chundrigar, Member Fazlur Rahman, Noorji, Mohammed Ismail, Abdur Rahman Khilji, Rauf Ansari, Firoz Ahmed Qazi, Nisar Ahmed Khilji, Mohammed Sabir, Mohammed Asif, Farooq Ahmed and other many prominent persons.
