Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Government has announced construction of a memorial to celebrate the services of legendary Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan and his father Hyder Ali in Dindigul district. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa made an announcement to this effect on the floor of the Tamil Nadu Assembly on May 16. The memorial will be part of several other memorials being set up in memory of freedom fighters like Velu Nachiyar, Veerapandya Katta Bomman, Vinayagam Pillai, Chidambaranathan, Tyagi Swami Chinnaswamy, etc. The request for memorial in honour of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan was made by A. Soundararajan and K. Balabharathi of CPM and Aslam Basha, TMMK MLA from Ambur.
