Bahrain has appointed Dr. Shaikha Rana Bint Isa al-Khalifa as the first women Under Secretary under the Kingdom’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She has been working as an assistant under-secretary for Arab and Afro-Asian Affairs and organizations with the foreign ministry since April 2011. She has previously participated in several of bilateral and multilateral meetings at the United Nations and various international organizations especially the Asian Cooperation Forum, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council including meetings between Asean and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, according to her bio on the ministry’s website. Shaikha Rana bint Isa Al-Khalifa completed her Master of Arts in Peace and Conflict Resolution from the American University in Washington DC in 1998. She has a doctorate in International Law from the University of Exeter. n
