Lowering the Gaze

Now, Our Turn to Speak

This is with reference to the question and answer section in the June 2012 issue of Islamic Voice. In a reply to a question about where one  should look during salaat, one of the options given is to look at the Imam. The Quran instructs us to lower our gaze in public. I am of the  view that this can be achieved by lowering our gaze during salaat. But I have found that people do not lower their gaze, but lower their  heads and as a result, they are looking straight. Even when they are in public, their gaze is not lowered. So their salaat does not have the desired effect. Haroon Shaikh, [email protected].
