Social activist Mr. Harunur Rashid, Education activist Prof. Soleman Khurshid and businessman and social worker Naser Ahmed have been appointed the State level coordinator of the Union Ministry for Minority Affairs in West Bengal. They will be monitoring and reporting on progress of various development programmes of the Ministry in West Bengal and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar.
The Ministry programmes include implementation of the Prime Minister’s 15-point programme, Multi-Sectoral Development Programme for Minorities, Pre- and Post-Matric Scholarship for minority students, Maulana Azad National Fellowships, Free Coaching and Allied Schemes, Nai Roshini Leadership Development Scheme, Maulana Azad Sehat Scheme, Nalanda Project, ‘Seekho aur Kamaao’ (Learn and Earn) Skill Development Programme, Computerisation of Wakf Records, Jiyo Parsi (to reverse the population decline of Parsi community), Merit cum Means Based Scholarship Scheme etc.
Mr. Rashid, a development officer with Life Insurance Corporation of India is the secretary for Al-Faiz High School in Berhampore in Murshidabad district and is associated with several other community organizations. Prof. Soleman has been pioneer of several educational initiatives among Muslims. Mr. Naser Ahmed is an accomplished businessman and a sincere social worker.
