The Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation proposes to fund 5,000 students from Minority communities for professional courses in the State during 2015-16 academic year for students those selecting the Common Entrance Test (CET). This was announced here by the new Chairman of the KMDC Mr. Masood Faujdar at a press conference held on December 10. He said the Corporation funded 2135 students belonging to Muslim community and 400 belonging to the Christian community during the 2014-15. He said direct payment of the fee into bank account of the students has eliminated the brokers who earlier worked as middlemen. He advised the parents of minority students to open bank accounts under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Scheme.
Faujdar said the State Government had allocated Rs. 160.65 crore in the State Budget for the year 2014-15. Of this, he said, so far RS. 120 crore has already been released. He informed that mini loans to the tunes of Rs. 9 crore have been extended to 2,530 individuals. He said 108 individuals from the minority communities have been given subsidy for construction of houses to the tune of Rs. 53 lakh. Around 14,000 women from minorities have been provided loans to the tune of Rs. 13.67 crore.
