New Delhi: The representation of minorities in Central Government jobs has increased from 6.24% in 2011-12 to 8.50% in 2014-15, as per information made available by the Department of Personnel and Training. This Information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Mr. Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi in Lok Sabha on July 22.
A Press Information Bureau (PIB) press release said, Prime Minister’s New 15-point Programme for the welfare of minorities, inter-alia provides for giving special consideration to minorities in recruitment. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) is the nodal agency to look into the matter of recruitment of minorities. The DoPT has issued guidelines to all concerned authorities to give special consideration to minorities in appointments. Minorities include members of Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi communities. They together constitute nearly 18% of the population. It is worth remembering that certain minorities are represented more than their population share in official jobs.
