Syed Zainul Abedin, chief of the Dargah of Ajmer, Khawaja Syed Moinuddin Chishti on April 3 called upon Muslims to give up eating of beef voluntarily. He was addressing the conclave of the devotees who gathered for the annual Urs of Hazrath Chishti, the 12th century saint buried at Ajmer. Abedin read out a statement to this effect which had been agreed upon by the executive committee of the Dargah management. It also resolved to request the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to declare cow as the national animal of India. It also called for ban on triple talaq, which it said was a violation of shariah.
