In Riyadh, esteemed scholars led by the grand mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Asheikh, alongside senior figures from the Islamic world, have convened for the 23rd session of the Islamic Fiqh Council. This gathering, spanning from April 20 to 22, aims to address pressing contemporary jurisprudential dilemmas.
Attended by scholars and researchers from Islamic nations and Muslim-minority regions, the council endeavors to elucidate Shariah rulings on a spectrum of issues, demonstrating the adaptability of Islamic jurisprudence while preserving its heritage. Emphasis is placed on articulating Shariah terminology in contemporary language, fostering clarity and relevance.
Sheikh Al-Asheikh underscored the flexibility inherent in Islamic jurisprudence, characterized by its general principles, comprehensive rules, diverse fatwas, and extensive research. He commended the efforts of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in facilitating the service of the Two Holy Mosques and supporting scholarly endeavors.
Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, secretary-general of the Muslim World League, highlighted the session’s focus on Shariah issues, informed by rigorous academic research conducted by esteemed scholars. Against the backdrop of significant intellectual and political challenges facing the Islamic world, Hissein Brahim Taha, secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, underscored the session’s timeliness and importance.
Addressing a breadth of topics including Shariah, family, medical, economic, financial, and intellectual policies, Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid, president of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, emphasized the relevance of discussions to the Islamic nation’s interests.
Dr. Koutoub Moustapha Sano, secretary-general of the academy, emphasized the imperative of harmonizing rulings across Islamic countries, aligning with the provisions of Islamic Shariah to foster unity among Islamic peoples.
Throughout the session, numerous scientific sessions will delve into contemporary jurisprudential challenges, reflecting the council’s commitment to addressing evolving issues within the framework of Islamic law.
