Ghousia Polytechnic for Women has been sanctioned grant-in aid by the Department of Technical Education of the Government of Karnataka recently. The grant would cover the salaries for 78 of its staff members, of whom 32 are teaching staff. The Polytechnic is run by the Ghousia Industrial and Engineering Trust and imparts diploma in Computer Science, Fashion Designing, Electronics and Secretarial Practice. The Polytechnic was set up in 1986 and had been trying for grant-in aid for several years.
Principal Rehana Farhat informed Islamic Voice that the Polytechnic has also been sanctioned three additional trades viz, Civil engineering, Information Science and Mechatronics but a decision to start these diploma courses still due. The Polytechnic has currently 450 girls on its rolls, 60 per cent of whom are non-Muslims.
