JBAS College – UGC Grants “Potential for Excellence”

Chennai: The Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women has been granted the status of College with Potential for Excellence by the University Grants Commission. It will sanction a grant of Rs. 1.5 crore to the college for research, infrastructure development and other activities.
JBAS College is one of the seven arts and science colleges selected for the prestigious status in Tamil Nadu. Others include Madras Christian College, Chennai; Stella Maris College, Chennai; and Women’s Christian College, Chennai etc.
The JBAS College was founded by Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed and his wife Fathima Akhter in 1953 as SIET Women’s College under the Southern India Education Trust (SIET).
