Bangalore: The Department of Public Instructions has constituted a committee to go into the condition of the Government Urdu Medium Schools in the State. Though the committee was constituted on January 31 by the Minister for Primary Education Mr. Visveshwar Hegde Kageri, the members of the committee were yet to received an intimation by March 20. The Minister had initiated the constitution of the committee after several NGOs stressed the need to review the status and state of Urdu medium schools in the state and review the issues pertaining to decline in standards of these schools. The Committee had been assigned the task of presenting the report within three months. Following persons had been named on the panel: Dr. A. M. Pathan, former vice chancellor of University of Dharwad; Meer Obaidullah, former DDPI; Abdul Aleem, former DDPI, Wg. Cdr (retd) Mahmood Khan; Dr. L. Ayesha, Bangalore; Rafi Bhandari, journalist, Bijapur; B.Z. Gulshad Ahmed, president, Karnataka Unaided Minority School Management Association; Prof. Akheel Ahmed, Dept. of Chemistry, Mysore University; and Director, Directorate of Minority Languages under the Department of Public Instructions. None of the members had received the intimation of their being on the panel till March 20.
