Bengaluru: On December 11, people belonging to different faiths gathered at “Ashirvad”, a Jesuit-run centre on St. Mark’s Road, to commemorate and remember Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Eid Milad celebration was organized by the Inter-Religious Harmony Movement (IRHM). Ahsan Jafri, a well known Sufi scholar, reflected on some beautiful values related to Prophet Muhammad’s life. Focusing on the Prophet’s kindness towards, and peaceful relations with people of other faiths, like the Jews and Christians of his time, he stressed that this is the most needed thing that Muslims must emulate today. Muslims should imbibe the values of generosity, non-violence and love towards all humanity, irrespective of religion, as embodied by the Prophet. We can show our love towards the Prophet by following his example of compassion towards all, amidst a world today which is in turmoil, he stressed. The program also had some young members from Ahsan’s team presenting Na’ats in praise of the Prophet.
Bangalore’s Inter-Religious Harmony Movement is a unique group of men and women from different faith backgrounds who meet every second and fourth Sunday of every month to share harmonious relationships through peaceful discussions, celebrate festivals of different faiths, participate in talks and seminars and seek to understand different faiths.
