How many happy birds are caught and kept in cages to please us with their songs? People do not think about the feelings of these poor creatures.

By Bazil Hulmani

In the name of faith and rituals, fashion and modernity, food, taste and health, adventure and sports, and so on, human beings kill animals and birds. Should we not apply our compassion to think that animals and plants also need to live on this planet? We have snatched way their homes and push them towards extinction and then discuss in meetings that so-and-so species is now extinct. Kindness and justice to animals is an essential part of human virtue. They deserve kindness because they cannot plead their own cause.

Cruelty to Animals is Rising
Work animals and draught animals are often subjected to hard continuous labour. Often they are underfed. Beating, whipping and bruising such animals is common. Even young animals are put to work. After exploiting them, they are cruelly killed in old-fashioned and unhygienic slaughter- houses. It makes one shudder to think what torture these hapless creatures have to undergo at the hands of cruel men in slaughter-houses. Transportation of animals without food and water on foot is common. They are savagely killed in the presence of other animals. Snakes and squirrels are skinned alive. Frog’s legs are cut off, leaving the creatures to die slowly. Cruelty to wild animals and birds is also on the increase. As a result, many of them are on the verge of extinction.
How many happy birds are caught and kept in cages to please us with their songs? People do not think about the feelings of these poor creatures. The natural habitats of animals and plants are being destroyed for land ‘development’ and farming by humans. Poaching and hunting of animals for fur, jewellery, meat and leather are other factors contributing to wildlife extinction. If stringent steps are not taken to save wildlife, it would not be long when they will find a place only on the list of extinct species. And that would not be all. The extinction of wildlife species will certainly have a fatal impact on the human race as well. So, for us as humans it becomes a great responsibility to save wildlife and other species, because since we are all interlinked, it means helping to save our planet and most importantly, our own selves.

Conservation Organization
Working with other people is almost always more effective than working alone. Joining a conservation organization is a great way to pool one’s efforts together with the work of others in order to help protect against animal cruelty, hunting, or the destruction of habitat. There are lots of different organizations with different goals, so you are sure to find like-minded people. Creatures other than humans are not mere numbers, but are living beings who need our love.
