Bangalore: The Government Unani Medical College here will commission its 200-bed hospital within next two months. This will allow the College also to start post graduate courses in Unani Medicine. The new hospital which is coming up in Basveshwaranagar will have Dentistry, Gynaecology, Ophthalamology and Radiology departments, says Dr. Anees Ahmed, professor and Head, Department of ENT. The hospital will have five registered medical registrars specializing in Unani medicine, besides the 14 professors who currently teach at the college.
Bangalore already has another facility for post graduation in Unani medicine and research at National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM) at Kottigepalya on Magadi Road. It is an autonomous body under the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Institute offers three-year PG course in six streams and has only 30 students on its rolls.
