Mumbai: Centre for Study of Society of Secularism (CSSS), Mumbai, has announced the institution of the ‘Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer Best Published Paper Award’, which would be presented annually to the best paper selected from papers published in reputed print journals in the field of Islam, secularism and diversity during the calendar year 2017. The paper could be on the following themes: Diversity; Islam and Gender Rights; Islam and Human Rights; Islam and Social Justice; Islam, Communal Harmony and Peace; Religion and Society; Secularism. The paper must have been written in English and be between 4,000 to 6,000 words. A cash prize of INR 25000 will be awarded to the winner of the Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer Best Published Paper Award. The paper must be submitted online in PDF format on or before August 25, 2018 to [email protected]
The Award has been instituted in memory of Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer (1939-2013), who was a renowned Islamic scholar and human rights activist. Dr. Engineer’s writings and works touched the lives of many and reflected his commitment to peace, secularism and democracy in India. He was the founder and Chairperson of the Centre for the Study of Society and Secularism (CSSS). The Award has been instituted in order to promote his legacy of scholarly work on Islam, secularism and diversity.
