Bengaluru: Beary Bhavan, a cultural centre for the Beary community will come up in the HBR Layout of the city. Foundation stone for the same was laid by Chief Minister Mr. Siddramaiah last month on a plot of land acquired at Rs. 12 crore by the members of the Beary community in the city.
Beary is a small community of Muslims who are mainly concentrated in the Udupi, DK and Chikmagalur district of Karnataka and have a distinct identity. They speak Beary language which is an amalgam of Kannada, Malayalam and Konkani. The nearly 4 lakh people are followers of Shafii school of jurisprudence. The language has produced several writers, poets and critics. The Bhavan will be constructed by Beary Kshema Abhivruddhi Sangha.
