Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University would name the proposed Centre for Strategic Studies after Tipu Sultan. Indication to this effect was given by Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. (Retd) Zameeruddin Shah at a seminar convened here by the Sir Syed Awarness Forum on “Life and Works of Tipu Sultan to mark his 214th martyrdom anniversary on May 4. Chief guest Yusuf Ansari, a journalist recalled that Tipu provided grants to 150 temples, and attempts to malign him were motivated by communal politics. Forum president Dr. Shakeel Samdani urged the vice chancellor to set up a centre of study dedicated to the memory of Tipu Sultan in the University. Others who spoke at the seminar included Prof. Saud Alam Qasmi, Prof. Athar Ali and Prof. N. A. K. Durrani. (Report by Prof. Shakeel Samdani)
