Bengaluru: A free dialysis centre set up by Hazrath Hameedsha Dargah Management Committee was inaugurated on March 23 by Karnataka Health Minister Ramesh Kumar. The Centre plans to have 13 dialysis machines and has installed and has begun operation with five.
Mr. G. A. Bawa, President of the HHS Dargah Management Committee, told Islamic Voice that the infrastructure was provided by the Committee while the operation cost would be met with allocation from the Department of Health of the state.
The Centre has been set up on a 2,500 sq. ft. area next to the mosque within the Dargah complex. The committee has also installed an RO (Reverse Osmosis) plant for supply of purified water for the dialysis centre.
Bawa said the Dargah Committee was providing monetary assistance to nearly 400 persons on dialysis every month from its funds, with an annual outlay of Rs. 40 to 50 lakh. From now onwards, these patients would be provided dialysis facilities at the dialysis centre. (Usually, a patient requires ten disalysis sessions in a month). Going by the rates in Bengaluru, a single session costs a patient between Rs. 600 to 700.
The dargah, situated in the heart of Bengaluru, runs a commercial complex, with nearly 200 units let out for operation of shops, workshops and offices in the premises. The proceeds from the rents are utilized for educational scholarships and monetary assistance for the ailing and the destitute. Currently, a girls’ hostel is being constructed within the dargah complex by philanthropist Mr. Ziaulla Sheriff, Chairman of India Builders Corporation. Bawa says that the hostel will be ready shortly and will accommodate nearly 200 girls studying as well as working. The Diaylsis is totally free for Muslims or non-Muslims whoever is needy.
