Deobandi – Barelvi Ulema Come Together

Deoband: A strong message of Muslim unity was issued by two prominent leaders of the Muslim community here on May 10. Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan of the Barelvi sect called upon Maulana Abul Qasim Noamani, the rector of the Darul Uloom Deoband. Maulana Raza heads the All India Ittihad e Millat Council.
The meeting took place in the backdrop of the recent arrest of 11 Muslim youth in Delhi. The Jamiatul Ulema Hind has taken up their cases with the Special Cell of Delhi Police (eight of the youth have been released by May 12 after being found innocent).
Maulana Raza said the Muslim leaders should forget their mutual sectarian differences. Raza said no ulema have ever supported any terrorist outfit or activity in the country. His delegation included Dr. Jarrar, Muhammad Sajid Dehlavi, Md. Masoom Barelvi, Maulana Mufti Shariff Imam, and Mahboob Alam.
