Bhopal: A committee was set up by the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (M) to examine a proposal to include women in the organization’s activities. The Jamiat’s two-day national consultative meeting in Bhopal ended with a commitment to strengthen the organizational framework at the local level. Hitherto, Jamiat was a male preserve, and women’s representation was taboo in the organization.
The meeting of presidents and general secretaries of the state and regional units of the organization was held in the city and it was presided over by Maulana Mahmood Madani, national president of the Jamiat.
“After the debacle of the movement of Hazrat Shah Waliullah Sahab, the Jamiat took upon itself all the responsibilities to take care of the Muslim community in India,” said Maulana Madani
“Whenever any catastrophe strikes the community, Muslims look to the Jamiat with hope as it stands by them. Hence, when we are not able to work as per their expectations, they criticize us,” he admitted.
He claimed that 42 percent of youth are exposed to alcoholism. They live in villages and cities, we can reform them only when the representatives of the Jamiat are present everywhere.
A motion to include women in Jamiat activities was made during the meeting, and a committee has been formed to evaluate its feasibility.
