New Delhi: Only four Muslims, all members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) could make it to the winning post in the recently held Assembly election for Delhi. They are: Amanatullah Khan from Okhla; Haji Ishraq from Seelampur; Imran Hussain from Ballimaran; and Asim Ahmed Khan from Matiamahal. The AAP had given tickets to five Muslim candidates. However, its candidate from Mustafabad Haji Md. Yunus was defeated by Jagdish Pradhan of the BJP. Congress had given tickets to six candidates, all of whom were trounced. The BJP had fielded Shakil Anjum Dehlavi from Matia Mahal. He was defeated by Asim Ahmed Khan. Previous Assembly had five Muslim members, four from Congress and one representing the JDU.
