Noted columnist on issues of history Akhilesh Mithal who was known for his secular values, passed away on November 21 at Delhi. He was a close friend of personalities like Majaz, Firaq, Faiz, Faraz, Anita Desai among many such literary luminaries. Similarly, he had many other friends like Firoz Gandhi and I. K. Gujral. Gen. Ziaulhaq was his friend since St. Stephens days in Delhi. An era has gone with him. His Sunday columns on history in The Asian Age were keenly read by a larger number of readers across the country.
